With July coming to a close, I even surprised myself when I tallied my running miles and determined that I logged the most miles in a month – EVER! Of course, my week of concentrated running in Craftsbury, Vermont contributed to 45 of those miles. But, even so, I feel as if I have taken myself to another level with all of my accomplishments this month. First and foremost, since I returned home from running camp, I have done ALL of my running outside. Prior to camp, I did all of my training indoors on the treadmill. If anything, my experience at camp built up my confidence to hit the roads outside and begin logging those miles. Just yesterday, I really pushed hard and completed my first solo 10-mile run outside and it felt great.
Now that August is upon us, my 16 week training plan begins for the Philadelphia Marathon in November. Since I am already running with a strong base, I plan to follow a modified plan for the first 4 weeks and try to run 5-mile runs at least 4 days a week followed by 1 long run on Saturdays. After I return from Minneapolis, I'll move into the Strength Phase of my training where I'll concentrate on longer endurance runs.
Hard to believe that August will be here in just a little more than 2 hours – Hope all of my fellow runners are having a great summer!
John
