Memorial Day Weekend Race

I kicked off the Memorial Day weekend this morning with a 5K race. This has become one of my traditions and I have run the Doylestown Red, White and Blue 5K for the past 4 years. This morning's race was even more eventful for me since today is my 58th birthday! What a great way to kick off the holiday weekend and to celebrate my day.

I finished this morning's race in 24:04. Although not a PR for a 5K race, this was my fastest time for this course and I was more than 2 minutes faster than last year!

Hoping everyone has a safe and healthy holiday weekend!

Doylestown Red, White and Blue 5K in 26:18:94

It was a warm and humid morning for the 2011 Doylestown Red, White and Blue 5K race but a light breeze helped compensate for the less than ideal running conditions. I managed to finish with my 2nd best time for a 5K race this season (I've run 5 so far), but I still wasn't able to place in the top 10 for my age group (55-59). Although I only missed the top 10 by 1 placement, the runner ahead of me still ran a full minute faster than me. I'm just not fast enough to catch up to these guys!

Doylestown Red, White and Blue 5K Race Results

There is one more race to run in the Bucks 5K series and that is the Chalfont Challenge 5K which will be on Saturday, June 11th. In the meantime, I will be preparing this week to run a 10K next weekend (Sunday, June 5th) in Princeton, NJ. I've only run one 10K before and that was nearly 2 years ago so I need figure out my pacing. I'm afraid I'll start out too fast and crash during the last 2 miles – don't want that to happen.

Happy Trails Folks!

Doylestown 5K Race - Memorial Day Weekend

The 2010 Doylestown Red,White and Blue 5K race was held Memorial Day weekend on Saturday, May 29. This is the largest of the Bucks County 5K races.

It was an overcast, partly sunny, mildly humid morning for a race. Although I fell short of achieving a new PR, I finished 8th in my age group, which is the best placement I've achieved so far in this series! My race time was 25:23 coming in at an 8:10 mile.

One more race to go in this series - the Chalfont 5K Challenge will be in my home town next Saturday on June 5th.

After this series, I will begin training for my next half-marathon which will be in Minneapolis on August 22. It will be nice to visit Minneapolis again - I lived there between 1979 - 1981 when I attended graduate school at the University of Minnesota. Hope to catch up with some old friends who still live there!

Happy Trails!
